A Grandmothers Movement to end AIDS in Africa
Grandmothers Against Poverty and AIDS (GAPA) is an NGO in Khayelitsha, which aims to unlock and enhance the potential in older persons affected by HIV/AIDS to turn the tide on poverty in their community. GAPA does this through offering psychosocial support and peer education to other grandmothers and offering opportunities to engage in income generating activities and community garden projects to chase poverty away from their doorsteps. GAPA also provides protection, through its aftercare program for vulnerable children from the community, with an aim to focus on child learning and development and enhance intergenerational play.
