WHO WE ARE

Advocating, Educating and Acting for Gender Equity

Founded in 2013, the Institute for International Women’s Rights – Manitoba (IIWR-MB) is an incorporated not-for-profit organization founded to generate education, awareness, and action to promote gender equity. Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the IIWR-MB is open to all individuals, as well as organizations, that have an interest in promoting gender equity.

The IIWR-MB works to support gender equity, locally and globally. In recent years, the IIWR-MB’s mission has evolved towards a community of practice focused on gender equity and justice through advocacy, inclusivity, education, community and peace. Our vision is simple: a world where dignity, gender equity and justice are actualized for all people.

The IIWR-MB is a community focused organization that facilitates a platform to include all the voices and experiences of girls, women and gender diverse people in Manitoba, with a goal of achieving gender equity and justice for all. We practice transformative leadership that leaves no one behind.

The IIWR-MB is governed by a Board of Directors elected annually by its membership. The IIWR-MB membership is open to individuals and organizations, with specific opportunities for students and those who prefer to donate their time in exchange for an annual membership. Learn more about our membership here.

We are separate and distinct from the Institute for International Women’s Rights Global College, (University of Winnipeg) although we work closely together, and IIWR Global College is an Organization Member of IIWR-MB. IIWR Global College’s mandate is to provide opportunities for students for research, learning, dialogue, and action on women’s rights in collaboration with groups and organizations within the university, and in the larger community.
