About this Event

2021 marks 25 years since the Honourable Dr. Jean Augustine “singlehandedly championed the unanimous vote to officially designate February as Black History Month in Canada”.

Since then, Canadian Black communities have experienced many firsts in Canadian policymaking for recognition, justice and development of the excellence of Black Canadians.

The Honourable Dr. Augustine in many regards set the stage and the pace for the further development and recognition of Black diplomacy in Canadian policy relations.

This Black History Month, Developing Young Leaders of Tomorrow, Today (DYLOTT) receives the baton from her Excellency Dr. Augustine, for the next leg of the race; to shape the next generation of Black Diplomats in Canada.

Join us on February 25th, at 11:00 am EST as we celebrate Black History Month with a virtual event of Changing History, to Our Story, Canadian Black Representation in Global Diplomacy: Lessons from the Field, in partnership with Global Affairs Canada and CIBC.

This event will be moderated by Akil Bishop – Vice President, Transformation at CIBC and will feature a conversation with Lorraine Anderson – Chief of Staff to the Ambassador of Women, Peace and Security Global Affairs Canada, Kevin Lunianga – Senior Operations Officer, Global Affairs Canada, Edmond Wega – Director General, International Assistance, Global Affairs Canada, Tarik Khan – General West and Central Africa, Global Affairs Canada and Candies Kotchapaw – Executive Director at Developing Young Leaders of Today, Tomorrow.

Break out room moderators will include: MPP Laura-Mae Lindo – Official Opposition Critic for Anti-Racism, and Citizenship and Immigration, Dauna Jones-Simmonds – Business Development Consultant, Consul General Tudor Alexis – Consul General of France in Toronto, Nadia Theodore – Former Consul General of Canada to Southeast US and Justine Namara – Associate Director, Programs and Strategic Initiatives at Skills for Change.A
