Women in Sports: Global Champions
Join us for a special virtual conversation that explores the many accomplishments of women in the world of sports.
About this Event
More than ever in history, women are shaping sports at all levels, as players on the field and as executives in the industry, and thereby shifting culture towards women’s empowerment on a global scale. Women in sports face discrimination – both for their gender and for their race. This special conversation with remarkable leaders across sports will illuminate recent wins in the industry, strategies for future gains, opportunities to join the movement, and insights on UN Women initiatives in sport changing the lives of women and girls worldwide.
Join UN Women USA NY for this virtual conversation featuring Olympic Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad and former USTA Chairwoman Katrina Adams, moderated by Van Adams, of VanAdams Sports Group. These sport leaders shifting global culture will illuminate recent wins in the industry, strategies for future gains, and opportunities to join the movement, in support of UN Women initiatives changing the lives of women and girls.
Sport drives gender equality. With inspiring role models, sport teaches teamwork, self-reliance, resilience and confidence. In Brazil and Argentina, UN Women programs help girls learn critical life-skills while playing sport. In Jordan, girls football camps build relationships between local communities and refugees. In the Pacific, a partnership with Oceania Rugby works to end violence against women. With Goodwill Ambassadors like Brazilian footballer Marta Vieira da Silva, UN Women calls for action on unequal pay, gender-based violence and lack of targeted investment for women and girls to have careers in sport.
Although they ask for a donation, there are free tickets – available here.
