IIWR-MB stands united with the international community in condemning the invasion of and subsequent war against Ukraine. We call for an end to the aggression and violence imposed on Ukraine, and for the protection of Ukrainian civilians whose lives have been thrown into chaos by this conflict.
We are alarmed by the horrific conditions for all civilians, including women, children, gender-diverse people, and members of the LGBTQIA+ communities. Every effort must be made to support civilian access to humanitarian assistance.
We recognize and support the rapid response of many organizations to this humanitarian crisis. Many members of the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation, for example, are accepting donations to provide humanitarian aid and relief in affected areas.
Looking ahead, the refugees that come to Canada will require assistance and support. Services, goods, and accommodations from groups and individuals will be needed. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is collecting names of people who would be willing to host families or to help in other ways. Please consider supporting – Assistance to Ukrainians affected by war in Ukraine.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, let us show solidarity with the Ukrainian people. May we support a peaceful and just end to all acts of aggression and continue efforts for a safe and gender-inclusive world. – The Institute for International Women’s Rights – Manitoba
